I remember when I first got Tunesmith. It is a bit of a story. I used to visit B&C Computer Visions (Atari store and service) quite a bit when it was near me here is Santa Clara, CA (USA)and then decided to spend the money to get Tunesmith, as I read an article about it in one of my old keyboard magizines. At the time, I *only* had a TT030. Brought Tunesmith home, and it would not work. I decided to bring it back and Bruce (of B&C)let me trade it for Ludwig, hoping that would work on my TT. That did not work either. So I let a friend borrow Ludwig as he had a mega Ste. Later that year, I finally got a mega, my friend returned Ludwig, and then I wanted Tunesmith. Bruce had already moved to Southern CA. But my wife arranged to pick it up at his house in Santa Clara when he was here fixing it up for my Birthday. It was a nice surprise to open up a New sealed version of Tunesmith and being able to finally work with it. I was not disapointed as I immeadiatly fell in love with the "Tunesmith" sound. Then I posted on the alt.music newsgrp site, asking if anyone there ever played with algo-comp stuff and I mentioned Tunesmith. To my surprise, Jim Johnson, the creator of Tunesmith answered it! He was surprised that anyone ever used his program.Since then, I have been contacting Jim now and then to see if he would ever port his ideas. At one time he was going to send me the source code where I would read it on my atari and send it back to him intact (as he no longer has an Atari) but he did not trust the mail system. (don't blame him!) Then I found a "libed" version and asked him for a freeware release in the same fashion as M was released. But Jim did not want to do that. I respect his wishes. But fortunatly, we were able to find a version of Tunesmith without Copy protection during the time when CP was lifted from Dr T products(Thanks to Trond of this list), so Jim gave his concent to a freeware release. We also found a version that was 030 compatable, a special edition that was never officially released, but was in the possesion of Donald Skaggs (of this list..Thanks Donald!)So now we have two editions of Tunesmith available. So it was a long journey to finally get Tunesmith released, and now it works on a PC thru Steem. I have created many pieces with it, including one I just uploaded called Celestrial. It is Part two of a longer "suite" based on the seven days of Creation. It is LONG as I would call it a "journey" peice as it ebbs and flows. It gives you an example of what you can do with Tunesmith.
