This small tutorial may be of interest for those who: 1. have a PC with SBLive soundcard and want to use Soundfonts. 2. prefer to do their sequencing on an Atari computer. (With special permission from Tim Conrardy, as this is only half Atari related.) Ahum. :-) Here we go (part 1): Basicly you need to install two apps on your PC: some sort of sequencer and AweVbank98. Why do you need a sequencer on the PC? Because AweVbank cannot directly connect to your SBLive soundcard's MIDI IN or OUT. It is designed to work with the 'virtual' MIDI INs and OUTs a sequencer like Cubase or Cakewalk on your PC provides. Just like MROS in Atari Cubase. Why AweVbank? 1.It's a 'virtual' Soundfont manager. This means you don't have to load a whole bank of Soundfonts, just select the particulair soundfont you want instead of loading the whole bank. 2.After you're done with sequencing AweVbank gives back the Soundfont memory to the System, unlike Creative's software, which *always* claims as much system memory as you have chosen in the cache settings. Now this may not be an issue with more than 64 MB of memory installed, but it sure is when you have less. 3. It gives you virtual control over the Soundfonts synthesis parameters instantly, just like Vienna does. So: you can tweak VCA/VCF/ADSR/LFO settings directly from within AweVbank. Which drivers? There are two different drivers available. 1. Creative's own drivers. In this case you should set the cache settings to 0 MB. 2. EMU's APS (Audo Production Suite) drivers, made available for the SBLive, as the APS card features the same EMU chip as the SBLive. Those drivers work fine, but are *not* supported by Creative. Advantage: a lot of nice hardware accelerated effects (on MIDI channels also!)
